Wind/Solar Powered Clothes Dryer

Birt 22 nóv 2020
I made a Renewable energy powered clothes dryer but theres more to consider than you think....
I made this as I'm hosting "Pitch the Future" the Virtual event being run buy the Shell Eco Marathon team as normal events this year have been affected by the Pandemic.

  • Now this is a very Low Tech approach to green energy but its always good to start simple and who knew about the washing machine door shape being so important lol. What other green projects would you like to see as this has got me thinking, Theres some great pitches from the teams with energy from falling rain aero efficient Traffic sequencing and different materials to improve batteries so hope this completion helps these things become a reality.

    • My back yard is calling your name, Colin!

    • @United Space Pirates thats a really stupid idea. 1- pipe pressure is a huge problem. 2- electrolysis also produces oxygen, the entire pipe system could blow up. 3- it would waste a lot of energy for something that gravity already does for free, since as you know, water can be accelerated but cant be compressed, the only result of adding pressure to a cities water pipes is something blowing up or bursting. a similar thing and better thought is beeing implemented in europe, they use wood chips to generate electricity, and the surplus electricity is stored by using electrolysis to generate hydrogen as fuel to be burned at any time. but anyways, this comment feed aint the way to discuss all this as all other users will get spammed with notifications, so on my part this will be my last message on this comments section, Happy Holidays random internet human.

    • @United Space Pirates are you american or what? those people contaminate a lot, here Cantabria people like collecting plastics from the beaches that the sea bring, also europe will ban single use plastics on 2021. www.europarl.europa.eu/news/en/press-room/20190321IPR32111/parliament-seals-ban-on-throwaway-plastics-by-2021#:~:text=On%20Wednesday%2C%20Parliament%20approved%20a,in%20the%20EU%20by%202021%3A&text=Plastic%20straws also, humans aint efficient in any way, with genetic engineering we could turn our hair and skin to be green and use sunlight like plants so sunbathing would have a meaning then, or just becoming cyborgs.

    • @Sergio Solórzano BTW, adding a bit of electrolysis to a few kilometers of pipe full of water can pressurize the water enough to turn an electric generator with the pressure generated by the hydrogen expansion far better than steam pressure. We are trying to help your species advance from where you are to where you should already be.

    • @Sergio Solórzano perhaps your species will survive, perhaps not. Regardless, please experiment with cheaper higher velocity powersouce systems. Increasing the voltage acting upon plasma also provides surplus power according to the same kinetic energy therum. Please stop polluting you eco system.

  • Some great shooting in this video, thanks to the videographer!

  • Please build a pulsjet cloth dryer

  • 6:58 are those plastic hands

  • I just went ahead and used this really amazing thing called a clothesline.. and surprisingly all the laundry was dry in a few hours.

    • Was looking for this comment

  • Who else thinks Colin would make an epic engineering teacher

  • do you pay any tax for using wind and solar power?

  • You're green(dry)washing Shell;)

  • #moneywash machine ?

  • *The British Mark Rober*

  • 8:00 oh boy, how did you cut yourself? O.O

  • Air and water displacement powered air compressor driven turbine drum with piezioelectric plates to catch energy from the spinning that put the extra needed to use a small amount of the air flow to power the air and water displacement generator ....maybe even a levitating liquid pendulum washing machine built into the air and water displacement generator Like archamedes sphere was ment for Ferroelectric polymer shock absorbing springs on acrylic axles with cloth in the brackets to catch the static with tinfoil capacitor A spherical gyroscopic version would be cool Free energy Like bubbling water to compress air Compressed air can be added to water to cut through pretty much anything too Water jets dont wear like saw blades do All without even needing electricity or batteries These are a few of my free energy upgrades Awesome vids furzey boy cracking contraptions created What about holographic projector shades using water vapor so nothing touches the face Vapor density regulation acting like polarized lenses helmholz resonator gyroscopic antigravity supercapacitor ionic acoustic hoverboard would be cool

  • It s cool, but really useless

  • well since it spits out all colins socks they will just be smelly forever haha

  • Eyyyyy how on earths hell hole did I miss this video

  • Isn't that what clothes lines are for collin 🤣 put em out in the sun to dry

  • Or you could just get a solar panel and wire it up to a normal tumble dryer... just a suggestion...

  • Furze, please tell me what you can't build.

  • my mom needs that...

  • There's a slug falling from your clothes on 11:19. Maybe something to think about when building an outdoor dryer without any door.

  • A convection drier driven by just solar heat would be so much simpler and cheaper.

  • That didn’t solve any of the problems a clothesline has. You still have to take your clothes outside and then bring them back in, it still takes a full day, and it only works on warm windy days.

  • For some reason ISchats unsubbed me from you? I wondered why I wasn't seeing new stuff!

    • @colinfurze Me Too! Merry Christmas dude

    • I hate that this happens

  • Hey Colin! I don't fully expect you to notice a comment on a month old video, but I just wanted to say I think this is a great idea, and I'm no expert, but thinking of my own clothes drier that I use, the air usually blows in from the back or through all the small holes punctured in the barrel itself. In this specific configuration, most of the air would leak out rather than pass through the clothes, since there's no door to isolate it, but you noticed that yourself of course. Secondly, most driers have inwards-facing fins that portrude from the barrel, creating slight "steps" that the clothes hang onto for an additional second before they drop back down, this would bring the clothes closer to the fan, as well as make them fall back down to the bottom while the other clothes are being brought up, creating more of a tumbling chain of motion, since your dryer seemed to have a lot of the clothes slide around the bottom for the most part, since there wasn't enough friction to drag them up at all, which might explain why the thicker clothes weren't drying, since heavier objects tend to stick to the bottom of a pile. That's just my two cents of course, I'm no expert. Cheers mate!

    • your right but this was a test mainly of the wind and solar parts firstly, theres lots of things to improve so will revise it at some point

  • Use the wind and solar to charge battery banks to run a tumble dryer.. But Where's the fun in that

  • jzjzjkskkskzjms

  • his engine setup looks like a coffee machine

  • I can see the appeal of these in a city. Think 20 of these on top of an apartment block. Hmm...

  • 9:17 perfect representation of UK accent

  • Why put a fan in when you could have put an electric heater....This is the reason engineers are still making revisions after projects are 90% complete.

  • 6:56 these hands xD

  • Real life phineas and ferb

  • PASLODE GAS ROCKET GUN!!

  • Should we tell him about clothes lines?

  • You say: "Clothes Dryer" I say: Much needed soil sifter, plz

  • Wait a sec, did you do a compare test on just hanging them outside in the sun?

  • If you could insulate it then you'd have a perfect machine that could make ice cream for you without using electricity

  • As is often said, if it's stupid and works, it's not stupid is it?

  • Colin, you need a taller tower for your windmill.

  • This is the worst reinvention of the wheel. And who needs a tumble dryer if you can air dry it on a clothes horse.

  • Try putting a heating element in front or back of the fan

  • Aca esta el comentario en español que estabas buscando!

  • 4:32 - Giant mouse? Why when you have a kid? :D

  • That clothes drier is a thing of beauty, surely there is a market for a lovely refined version even if it is just solar.

  • Great

  • The 'Wind/Solar Powered Clothes Dryer' has already been invented. It's called a '#WashingLine'. 👍🏻😂

    • ...No, I did not check the previous comments. Also - I was impressed by the creation - definitely easier than a washing line, albeit considerably more expensive to make (especially if you only have cutlery for tools to begin with).

  • Can anyone calculate how many times he would have to use it / how long for, to re-gain the energy used while building the thing? ;)

  • Mr Bean also did something similar (Or at least, the animated show)

  • Colin your a frickin genius and I absolutely love your videos 👍👍👍

  • 16 desember 2020 The likes is 69K lol

  • 6:56 THOSE AREN'T HIS HANDS

  • Isn’t a wind powered clothes drying machine just the wind 😂

  • Maybe it's just me having been studying a lot of german over the past 3 years but he looks pretty german lol. Loved the vid colin.

  • what happened to your face at 8:26

  • It looks like modern art

  • Now grab a black hose, put it a wooden box with glass and make sure it's a coil with plenty of length in this box. Put this box somewhere under the sun, blow air from one side, get warm air on the other.

  • This isn't colin, where is his tie?

  • Colin Furze has burned and blown up so much stuff that there is no amount of laundry dried by the wind in the known universe to offset this. LOL #climatechangeisfake

  • Was looking for dryer duct repair and this came up 🤔

  • 🤔

  • 11:21 nice underwear collin

  • Who else would love to have Colin as a neighbor?

  • Colin I instal solar panels names Charlie

  • snug like a bug in a rug

  • You could also hang your clothes and dry it with wind and solar just as well...

  • just put the Clothes on and they will dry up

  • Make one with a 600cc sportbike engine

  • ischats.info/title/aFjwL1so5m5P78ysNqxFnw.html

  • I'm sorry but this was a complete fail because no flame thrower was involved...

  • 7:55 so we gonna talk about the scratches or no?

  • But Colin! Perspex plastic isn’t eco friendly!

  • If Colin furze was a millionaire he would probably make a working james bond car out of a Aston Martin or Jaguar e type

  • Collo, I think it would work best in your bunker😉

  • Dr. Vegapunk in Real Life

  • How did you cut your face about 8 mins in video 🤨

  • *Feel like watching an Epic Anime*

  • ❤️🧡🤎💛💚💙💜💖

  • 👍🤩👍🤩👍🤩

  • Once again solar power beats the pants off of wind - cheaper, simpler, more reliable and just plain more powerful. For the money and time into the turbine you could buy a couple more panels, though I realize half the fun is the build here. I consider adding a wind turbine to my solar array occasionally, but always remember that it's rarely worth it on a residential scale. Utility scale wind is a different story.

  • Excellent!

  • jet powered drying machine!

  • I made my own version of this. Took me months: ischats.info/fun/dKp-oZiFpZp-hIg/v-deo

  • Feel like concentrated solar into a temperature battery you could use to help heat and power the process would have worked better than straight solar. Good not to waste the wind though. If you can get the sun to run hot enough maybe getting the wind and solar and which-what every to build up speed on a fly wheel to better tumble the laundry. Steady as she goes but a modern drier does have some advantages. Don't see a lot of fly wheel reliant projects online. Suppose it's a bit outside the ability of most hobbyists to craft and perfect... some day, somewhere, somehow.

  • Hear me out Colin Furze vs Mark Rober

  • I will you a secret low tech solution Washing line ????

  • ischats.info/fun/icWwfWKGdnSapng/v-deo thought you might like this lol 👍😁 brilliant as always

  • THE MUSIC!!! I LOVE IT!!

  • Just hang it up in ghe garden lol😂

  • Asserting dominance 1:44

  • Hi Colin

  • im sorry, but a piece of string is a wind and solar powered clothes drying machine. its centuries old and costs basically nothing... probably does a better job

  • Add a heating coil to the fan and this may be a feasible method of drying, if you don't need something instantly dry.

  • Hate shell thO

  • Why not just dry them outside in the sun on a cloth line?

  • I give a thumbs up long time watcher a long time fan long time student keep showing us the way

    • no ones going to mention his hands at 6:57 ???

  • Have you ever tried the push and pull the force of a magnet I have tried to work it out but I cannot do it I would like to see if you can you are the brains you are the tech you are the teacher 💯👍

  • Whatttt

  • I think it is missing some kind of gearbox to fasten the spinning

  • Not even gonna lie, I would totally buy one of these

  • Our clothes dryer is also all green energy too its wind and solar energy powered, we call it "The Clothes Line". 🤣
